Re: FOM fail to power on again
What actually happens when i boot a VM? VM starting very slow.
Fusion Professional Version 11.0.2 (10952296) on 15" 2018 MacBook Pro 32Gb mem 1TB NVMe SSD running Mojave 10.14.3
Can someone explain to me what exactly happens when i boot a VM in Fusion? The reason i ask is because i notice that it takes a long time, sometimes minutes, between the moment VM shows up on the screen (black screen with large Play icon greyed out) and the moment the OS inside the VM starts booting.
This is quite annoying if you quickly need a VM to do something rapidly or if, like me yesterday, a customer is looking over your shoulder how you set up an environment waiting for you to deliver a demo.
Again, it takes minutes to pass from the black startup screen to the first boot messages. I think it's a Fusion issue.

Re: UAG monitoring\configuring
I agree. We are running View 7.5 and UAG 3.3. When we had Sec servers we could see the sec status on the View Admin Console now the UAG is not even listed. Also we used the get - monitor commands to extract the status for a custom customer dash board and now can not do that. Well have not found a way yet. I know the View 7.7 and UAG 3.4 have the View Admin console integration but other than upgrading is there a way to monitor the status of the UAG 3.3 not only IP (UP/Down) but services running?
Horizon View 7.5 and UAG 3.3 Monitoring Questions
We are looking to monitor the UAG and our Monitoring software does not have canned probes to do so. We had scripts to monitor the SEC servers (services up/down and the Cert expiration). We are looking to do the same with the UAG but can not find PowerCLI commands to do so. Any help is much appreciated.
Re: FOM fail to power on again
Hello, Cjscol,
Thanks for your hint. So I check the error message again. Thinking of that should be ok, only service is stopped relating to booting.
I do not know which service.
I recycle the VC and re-power on FOM successful.
Tks.

Re: What is changed when a VM is moved as opposed to copy?
The key difference between the "I moved it" and "I copied it" is with the "I moved it" , the Universal Unique ID (UUID) of the VM is kept the same.
For a Windows OS licence that require activation, having a different UUID would likely mean reactivation of the licence or re-key of the Windows licence key would be required as the installed OS inside the VM sees it as "new hardware" (i.e. it as if OS licence key is applied to a different machine).
Other software might also depend on UUID for licencing or some combination of other unique parameters such as Ethernet MAC address.
The UUID of the VM is in the vmx configuration file of the VM.
uuid.bios = "some 32 hexadecimal digit string"
Need assistance on Cross vSwitch and Cross vCenter vMotion ?
Is there a document with screenshots that explains Cross vSwitch and Cross vCenter vMotion ?
I have watched couple of videos in YouTube but unable to get clarity on Network part ?
Do we need to create same portgroup label name on two different vCenter servers and enable vmotion for vmkernel interface ?

Re: Bug found in Fusion. TimeMachine Backup failure on VMDK splits
Hi,
On macOS you can copy files that are open for write, "no problem".
Easy enough to test, open a VM, run it and hit duplicate in Finder while highlighting the bundle.
It will copy the VM, all files are getting duplicated. But as the files are open for write there are no guarantees you can use that copy.
In that case you are copying files locally, so it is fast.
With TM backups the files are copied over a network link, so the disk will change over time and chances the backup is actually usable is much lower.
If a VM is suspended, no files are open by VMware Fusion and you can copy it, as long as you use it again on the same hardware and as long as there haven't been CPU/GPU errata updates.
As mentioned in the article, from what I understand the TM algorithm is age and file size.
So when it needs more space it will first delete larger files that are a bit older.
I might be wrong though, but this is a problem that has existed since VMware Fusion 1, VMware has looked into it before and AFAIK it is not fixable on their end.
FWIW, I use TM myself and like it a lot.
But I do not trust it with my virtual machine backups.

Re: Running first installation of VCSA 6.7 in VMWare Workstation 14 - left with a blank screen
I am not sure if this will work for you.
I have been attempting the same for the last 2 days and having the same black screen, however I used the following version which did not face this issue.
VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-6.7.0.10000-8217866_OVF10.
But here is how I configured it.
I only filled in the Network Configuration part and imported.
I have an AD DNS server with A and PTR records added before importing.
I have NOT used any FQDN, only IP addresses.
Hope this helps.
Re: Can't access the vCSA via Web UI from host, cant get Stage 2 started..
I finally got it working as follows (partly).
But here is how I configured it.
I only filled in the Network Configuration part and imported.
I have an AD DNS server with A and PTR records added before importing.
I have NOT used any FQDN, only IP addresses.
And soon as the import finished, I changed the network mode.
Currently I'm accessing the vCSA via another VM and NOT through host browser, not sure if it is suppose to be this way, my assumption is that since ESXi can be done this way so should vCSA, I could be wrong though.
Thank You all.
Re: Esxi 6.7: This VM is attached to a network portgroup that doesn't exist. Edit this VM and attach it to a different network
Right, but where do I set this up? I need to access the esxi by ssh termimal? And which file?
Problem with one slice of a vmdk set
This is a problem which first surfaced My VMware Fusion successfully boots Windows 10 on my Mac Pro, but at some point after I start working in Windows, I get a popup which contains the following error message:
Operation on file failed. If the file resides on a remote file system, please make sure your network connection and the server where this disk resides are functioning properly.
Retrying the operation just produces the error again, as does the Continue option. The Cancel option then crashes the virtual machine.
The error always names the same 'slice' of my sparse drive, which is split into multiple files but the disk space is not pre-allocated. I have used the vmware-vdiskmanager to check the base vmdk file, and its -e option initially reported that the disk chain is not consistent and the virtual disk needs repair. I then used the -R option to repair the disk, and get the message saying it was successfully repaired. However, if I then go back into Windows, the same error happens.
If I try to copy the VM to another drive, I get an "error code -36" from MacOS. I have tried the dot_clean utility, but this doesn't resolve the problem, and my VM is on an AFPS volume, which means that even if I was prepared to pay the UK prices for DiskWarrior, it wouldn't be able to fix the problem.
Can anyone suggest another remedy for this?
Additional information: I don't have to do anything in Windows to make this problem manifest itself. Just leaving the login screen on for a few minutes will eventually result in the popup appearing.

Re: Horizon: QueryService_Create fails
Is $queyService initialised correctly?
Can you do a $queyService | Get-Member
I assume you also used the name with the typo (missing r) when assigning a value to $queyService?

Check status of vmkfstools process?
I used vmkfstools to clone a virtual disk via an SSH connection to one of our ESXi servers. I unfortunately lost my network sometime thereafter but before it completed. Is there a way I can check the completion status and/or whether it completed successfully? According to the vmkfstools documentation, there doesnt appear to be a way to do so with that command specifically.
Thanks!
Driver Lan - I211 Gigabit / AQC107 NBase-T/IEEE 802.3bz
Pessoal,
Estou com dificuldade para fazer meu ESXi 6.7 reconhecer 2 placas de rede.
Segue as placas:
AQC107 NBase-T/IEEE 802.3bz Ethernet Controller [AQtion]
I211 Gigabit Network Connection
Alguém sabe onde consigo um possível driver? Sou novo no mundo vSphere...
